Delicious warm bread with regular AND blueberry butter. The foie gras was delicious and tender. They give you VOSS water. It's a bit overpriced and there were flies in the room we were in (the one where we could look into the kitchen) The duck was delicious and tender. I'd give it another star but...... I got the chilled platter entree. And they gave me a bad oyster and ended up with food poisoning... They took it off my bill but I'm scarred for life. No more raw oysters for me.

The Lobster Bisque was the worst Lobster Bisque I've ever had. It was incredibly salty and just flat out horrible. We complained and the other soups they replaced the bisque with were less than satisfactory. Throughout the meal, our food was satisfactory to less than satisfactory. We left upset that we had chosen this restaurant and what made it even more awkward is we were in the room with the window to the kitchen, so dinner was silent as we gestured how much we weren't enjoying the food. And on top of it all, it was incredibly expensive. I would highly not recommend this restaurant. You are much better going up the road to Havana if you want a great meal.

We were here for a very late weekend brunch while on vacation. No reservations but no worries the hostess sat our party of 6 promptly at a lovely table in the middle of the dining room. The room was filled with natural light and had a dainty feminine touch to the decor. We all enjoyed our meal. Ordered Eggs benedict: The hollandaise was perfect as well as the eggs poached nicely topped with a generous lump of lobster. Also ordered the French Waffles: light and airy, and the Maine Breakfast: The usual egg, sausage and potatoes plate. The scones were lovely as well as the wild blueberry butter. We were the only ones seated at the time so the entire place was eerily quiet..wished they had some ambient music or something softly playing in the background. Will be back for brunch again surely.

Spent seven nights in town and had dinner here four times - this says it all. Not only is the food delicious (and the menu small, always a good sign), but the atmosphere is wonderful. John makes you feel like royalty and the chef comes out to see whether you liked his creations. I should have had all seven dinners here!

My husband and I returned to this restaurant for our anniversary. We were surprised to see that it was under new ownership, but we were soon delighted. With a more casual atmosphere and wonderful service we were instantly happy to return. We are foodies, major foodies. What I love about this place (which I am not sure is well known to most) is that they utilize the farm to table concept. I love knowing where my food comes from as well as supporting local farmers. The preparation was superb and I do have to acknowledge how perfectly the homemade pasta was prepared....perfectly al dente! The drinks were wonderful and all made with fresh ingredients, no mixes. I highly recommend this place if you love good food. It is worth every bite.

"Good food with end-of-season service" Michelle's serves good food in a nice, casual environment but we found that the service was slow and more importantly, the server's knowledge of the food was fair at best. For a supposedly fine dining experience and price, little details were not done well. For example, rather than provide us with clean utensils after our appetizer, our server placed the dirty ones back on the table cloth in front of us. The good food was offset by end-of-the-season service.

Stay away! Looks like a nice place for sunset. That's all it is. The food was weak at best and the starch of the day was mashed potatoes. Which are made from a box.

This place should not be this pricey. The food items that we had does not qualify for 4-diamond restaurant as it was claimed. We had two people ordering vegetarian pasta and they both had some sand like stuff in it. It could be from vegetable not cleaned properly but this happening at a nice restaurant is not acceptable. In short, too overpriced for the food quality that one gets.

My mother and I wandered in here from our cruise ship, in search of a nice breakfast. We arrived way early and walked around well before anything was open and eventually found this quaint little gem. My mother had the lobster omelette and I had the blueberry french toast. Everything was amazing. The restaurant was out towards the back and at that time of the morning it was really quiet and picturesque. We really enjoyed the small space and the calmness after several days on a big hulking boat. Perfect way to start our morning of shopping and sightseeing!

Nestled in quaint downtown Bar Harbor, this is a MUST Experience! Chef Colby along with owner John have created a menu to please (as far as we are concerned) anyone hands down! With a farm to table concept we were delighted by the visual appeal but also the incredible taste of our meals..... Rustic Mussels with chorizo, lobster cakes, shrimp scampi and surf and turf with fingerling and blueberry demi .... finished off with warmed fresh blueberry pie with ice cream and fresh whipped cream. A meal and experience never to be forgotten! John and Christine....Thank you ~ Merci!!

The food at Michelle's is nothing short of amazing. We had the lobster cakes to start which were delicious. I had the seafood scampi as my main course which was loaded with scallops, mussels, and shrimp. My boyfriend had the green curry dish and loved it. We split the chocolate cake for dessert and it was heavenly. We will definitely be back next time we're in Bar Harbor.

Beautiful, centrally located restaurant. Old world feel with a modern menu. Decent wine list and a staff that is non-pareil. The menu is farm-to-table. I had an excellent grass fed filet and my wife really enjoyed her scallops with mango salsa and a avacodo puree. We liked it a lot and we think you will too.

I'd like to give it 3.5 just because it was pricy. The evening menu is not large but what we had was very good. I had the best duck every and the other order was pasta very good but small. Salads were both good. We had to ask for bread and then it came with no butter . Portions should have been larger or cheaper. Ambiance was nice.

On a super-rainy morning, we decided to stop in for breakfast. We were the very first people there as it was quite early in the morning. It took a bit for the waiter to realize we were there, but then he seated us in the breakfast room by the window. Very nice inside. The waiter was very good about filling up my boyfriend's coffee cup...probably about five times, actually. I usually drink 1 or 2% milk, but the milk I was served was either raw milk from a cow, or possibly even cream? It was different, all right. the blueberry pancakes I got were delightful, and my boyfriend loved his breakfast parfait. I'm sure if we go again around dinnertime, the service will be better. I wouldn't consider this a four-star establishment, though.

We had dinner at the Chef's Table in early August, and it was a FIVE STAR experience. The Chef was friendly, personable, engaging, and just a good person. The concept of the Chef's table is a great idea, however, the seating for it is a bit uncomfortable. However, as we chitchatted with the Chef and some of the staff, we barely noticed. I had the Lobster Thermadour and it was delicious. Very rich, meaty, and fulfilling. My husband had halibut fish, unfortunately it was overcooked. Perhaps we were talking too much and the chef forgot about it! Don't know. Throughout the meal, the chef would give us taste bits of other dishes he was preparing. That was neat! The staff was extremely attentive and professional. We loved feeling special. It was neat seeing how a kitchen operates in a restaurant. Unfortunately, or fortunately for us, the restaurant was not busy that night so there was no food flying all over the place or people screaming. So no hideous tales to tell you about. Just a wonderful experience.

What a bunch of pretentious jerks. I had to ask to be served my bottle of wine. The spanikopita was cold and I the escargot was sweet (off tasting) and the bernaise was ice cold and returned as an omelet when asked to re-heat from ice cold. The waiter never refilled our wine, the owner denied any accountability and I a felt ignored and ripped off. I eat out a lot and this place was horrible. Buyer beware!

Great lunch. Excellent chicken salad, lobster salad, chicken Caesar wrap, and blueberry pie.

The food was fabulous. I had the lobster special that was so so so delicious and perfectly prepared. My husband had the veal milanese. It was superb. Unfortunately the a/c wasn't working and it was uncomfortablely hot. My husband was not happy.

The food was dynamite! My wife had lobster crostini and the duck entree. I had seasonal salad (grilled watermelon) and the salmon. Both were perfect. This was such a great meal. Friendly and attentive staff. Truly a must try!

Uhhh... wow. Yes, amazing. Totally and completely 100% deliciousness in every way. The aesthetic: elegant. The food: superb. The service: out-of-this-world. I dined here with a friend back in August of 2008. He found the place and I was hesitant (I have no idea why). We entered a bit early, as the dining room hadn't opened yet. But, one of the Bed & Breakfast owners (maybe?) greeted us warmly and led us into the bar. Try to imagine a small room in an old manor with a bar. They had a fair selection of wine, champagne, scotch, etc. And we enjoyed our drinks quietly while another couple sat and talked. As soon as the dining room opened, we were shown to our table. Our server was like something straight out of a fairy-tale or movie. He was quirky, he had character, he was extremely pleasant and fun to talk to. If I could bottle him up and transport him to every place I dined, I would do so in an instant. Now... the food. Where do I start? My friend had Michelle's Oysters on the Halfshell: 'Full Russian' with a crème fresh Stolichnaya Gold Vodka and Caviar. TO DIE FOR. I had the lobster bisque which was warm and full of flavor. Not too salty. We continued to dinner and you know what they say "Go big or go home". So I did. I had the lobster special (can't remember the specific name) which was a whole lobster, cut, meat removed, cooked, and then placed back in the lobster for serving. Alongside came risotto and steamed asparagus. It. Was. INCREDIBLE. The best lobster dish that I will most likely ever have the pleasure of consuming. Holy wow. My friend had the Two-Way Duckling - a standard on the menu - also deserves a "Holy wow". Straight from the menu description: A confit of leg and slow roasted breast served with a Mushroom risotto. Maderia glazed shallots and a Maderia-demi and brandy-cherry spread confit. We paired both with a shared bottle of pinot noir. To finish, the cheese plate with a glass of LBV port and you have thus created (and devoured, ravenously, but with class) the perfect meal most likely inspired by God himself. If I ever visit Bar Harbor again (and I hope I do), I will definitely be dining here again. I don't think I've ever had a better experience or eaten a better meal.

This was a big disappointment. The menu looks good, the setting is lovely and with the rave reviews, we entered excited for our meal. There were several issues: 1. The food was marginal at best. I had the Seafood aux Fruits de Mer--scallops and jumbo shrimp in puff pastry with mussels and asparagus. The mussels were woefully overcooked--and woefully undercleaned. They were incredibly gritty. The shrimp was rubbery, leaving the scallops and asparagus as the only edible items on the plate. The rest of my family had other entrees--the pork chop and the chicken dish were the best ones at our table. The other fish choices were disappointing. The best part of the meal overall was probably the caesar salad for 2 prepared table side. 2. The service was painfully slow. Waitress was very nice, but everything was slow. 3. If you have souffle on your dessert menu and it will take 15-20 minutes to cook upon ordering, please tell me about this option long before you hand me a dessert menu after I've already sat through a painfully slow meal. We left and made a beeline for an ice cream shop instead. There are far better places to spend your $ in Bar Harbor.

Once again, a superb meal & service to boot! We were back at Michelle's again knowing already what we were going to stuff ourselves on: chateaubriand for two (which NEVER disappoints!) & my dream-worthy fois gras app. The chateaubriand is plated table-side & is truly an excellent cut of meat. I will also note that the ceasar salad is prepared table-side & there is nothing quite like having fresh ceasar dressing... yum! One little disappointment for me - they switched up the fois gras app that I love so very much - it wasn't served on vanilla raisin toast points this year... still tasty but not the dream-inducing savor I had pined for. Our one complaint was the older couple dining across from us who did nothing but complain... about the lighting (it's candlelit), the server (who was also our server & was very engaging & attentive), & the food (which they ate every bit of then had the nerve to say they didn't like it & try to get it off the bill!). The last straw was when they ordered the souffle while announcing that they were souffle afficianados, then proceeded to ask every 2 minutes if the souffle was ready yet.... for people who claimed to be so experienced with souffle they should've know it takes approx. 20 minutes to make a souffle to order. We were quite thrilled when they finally left & we could enjoy our delicious dinner in peace!

Very few things are wrong with Bar Harbor. You can smell it in the air, see it in the faces of the people, and sometimes, hear it over the neighborhood intercom. However, Michelle's business empire has been the site of two of the most egregious misfirings of justice that this fair hamlet has ever had to deal with. For starters, this establishment offers up one of the best brunches in town. And, on top of that, it does not have the forty-minute waits and uppity staff of some other notable brunch favorites in town. True, it is slightly more expensive, but as a swim coach of mine used to say, you pay for the best, or get stuck with the rest. With Michelle's, you can get stuck with the best for the price of the rest, pretty much! I have only attended their brunch servings, and thus must withhold a fifth start. That is kind of their fault, since the property is overgrown and rustic to the point of creepy and forbidding. If you like wizards, you will come running. Otherwise, it will take some coaxing. I hope one day I can meet that special someone and they will make me go there for dinner. Number two, Michelle's also had a lunch/sandwich take-out place just down the way. For two glorious summers, it provided a tasty, imaginative alternative to a certain stank-pitted yoga poster death-trap on the other side of town (the only other place to get a sandwich that won't go straight through your colon and into your thigh). Then one day, it was gone. I was like, "hey, what happened? Where are you? I love you!" Sadly, it had been replaced by the kind of establishment that thinks you owe them a favor, and maybe even money, for a grilled cheese. If I want vengeance, I will die with the swine. I choose life. I choose Michelle's.
